ESD Circuit Protection Diode Targets Automotive CANBus Applications
PAM3CAN36 Press Release
The New AEC-Q101 Qualified PAM3CAN36 is Now Available
ProTek Devices has introduced an electrostatic discharge (ESD) circuit protection diode for two automotive Controller Area Network bus lines (CAN bus). It also guards against other electrical transients. The new PAM3CAN36 is AEC-Q101 qualified.

This new ESD protection diode features 80 watts of peak pulse power per line (typical = 8/20 microseconds), a low clamping voltage and low leakage current. It is also compatible with IEC standards 61000-4-2 (ESD): plus or minus 8kV contact, plus or minus 15kV air; with 61000-4-4 (EFT): 40A, 5/50ns; and with 61000-4-5 (surge): 1.5A, 8/20 microseconds. In addition, the PAM3CAN36 is RoHS and REACH compliant.
The PAM3CAN36 device also features a low IO capacitance per channel. It has a pin-out to suit two automotive CAN bus lines (CANH and CANL) and protect from damage caused by ESD and other electrical transients. Additionally, the 4.0 pF (typical) line capacitance of the PAM3CAN36 makes it an ideal choice for CAN Classic or CAN-FD (flexible data) applications.
Mechanical Characteristics
The PAM3CAN36 is provided in a molded JEDEC SOT-23 package with an approximate weight of only eight milligrams. It has lead-free pure-tin plating (annealed). The solder reflow temperature is Sn, 100: 260-270 degrees Celsius, pure-tin. It has a flammability rating of UL 94V-0. The diode is offered on 8mm tape and reel, per EIA standard 481 in quantities from 3,000.
